If you are on a gluten-free diet, you may encounter language barriers while traveling, which can be a significant challenge. While people in Italy are generally aware of celiac disease and the gluten-free diet, I still recommended to carry an Italian Gluten-Free Restaurant Card to avoid any language barriers and make your gluten-free travel easier. Personally, I prefer investing in a reliable gluten-free restaurant card that includes information about cross-contamination. Additionally, I’ve listed some basic Italian phrases to help you explain your dietary requirements. You can find them down below.
Furthermore, it is a good idea to conduct some research before your trip. Look for local restaurants that offer gluten-free options. By combining a trustworthy gluten-free restaurant card and thorough research, you can confidently navigate your dietary restrictions while traveling. The Italian Coeliac Society is called Associazione Italiana Celiachia – AIC.
There are several places to buy gluten-free ingredients, from local supermarkets to bigger chain stores and organic shops. Several stores have their own “free from” products in a dedicated gluten free product section.
